Are you an Active Service Member looking for a new home?
Effective July 1st a new Florida law requires
Landlords, Condominium Associations, Homeowners Associations and Cooperatives
to either deny or approve an Active Service Member’s rental application within
7 days from the receipt of such completed application.
Tenant must be told in writing whether his/her application
was approved or denied. If it has been denied, they must state the basis for
such denial. If Tenant is not given an answer within the 7-day time frame
(provided all other provisions of the lease and application requirements have
been met) Florida law requires the Landlord or Association to lease the
property to the Service Member.
Make sure to disclose your service member status to your
Landlord and/or management company in charge of the screening to avoid possible
issues regarding the law.
