Did you purchase a Property in 2015?
All
legal Florida residents are eligible for a Homestead
Exemption on their homes, condominiums, co-op
apartments, and certain mobile home lots if they qualify. State law allows Florida homeowners to claim up to a $50,000 Homestead Exemption
on their primary residence.
Note
this exemption does not apply to
Businesses, Rental Property, or Second Homes.
You
may also be eligible for additional
savings if you qualify such as Widow/Widower, Disable Person, or
non-for-profit organization among others.
In
order to qualify you must be a Florida
Resident and own and occupy the property as your primary residence by January 1st
of the year you claim the exemption. Be aware the application deadline is March 1st so make sure to
apply on time to start receiving your savings.
Homestead
Exemption is an important benefit that offers you considerable savings on your property tax bill every year you reside in
our home! Later I will show you how the Save our Homes Act and Portability
provision can save you thousands
during the time you own your property and even
after you sell it and move to a new home.
If
you need to apply for Homestead Exemption,
you may do so online or in person at
the Downtown and South Dade Government Centers. Visit: http://www.miamidade.gov/pa/exemptions_homestead.asp
